Natural concept - Organic Cotton

The most natural state of sleep...

What is Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is the version of its conventional counterpart grown without pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, chemical fertilizers or any other chemicals, and that makes it hugely different, especially considering that cotton (organic or otherwise) provides about half of all the world's fiber needs. Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically-dependent crops, sucking up 10% of all agricultural chemicals and 25% of insecticides on 3% of our arable land; that's more than any other crop per unit. And that is just not bad for the planet; 20,000 deaths occur each year from pesticide poisoning in developing countries, many of these from cotton farming, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Cotton is known as “White Gold” in some parts of the world. But the price in pesticides poisonings and the decimation of ecosystems is too high to pay. Birtex as an environmentally conscious company has developed Organic Cotton, a new 100% natural fabric by using organic cotton which can turn the tide.

Why Organic?

Protect the soil.
The Soil Conservation Service estimates that more than three billion tons of topsoil are eroded from the croplands each year. That means soil is eroding seven times faster than it is built up naturally. But in conventional farming the soil is used more as a medium for holding plants in a vertical position so they can be chemically fertilized. As a result, farms are suffering from the worst soil erosion in history.

Do not pollute the water

Water makes up two-third of our body mass and covers three-fourths of the planet. Despite its importance, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), estimates pesticides (some cancer causing) contaminate the ground water, polluting the primary source of drinking water for more than half the World's population.

Reduce health risk

Many pesticides approved for use by the EPA were registered before extensive research linking these chemicals to cancer and other diseases had been established. Now the EPA considers that 60 percent of all herbicides, 90 percent of all fungicides and 30 percent of all insecticides are carcinogenic. A 1987 National Academy of Sciences report estimated that pesticides might cause an extra 1.4 million cancer cases among people over their lifetimes. The bottom line is that pesticides are poisons designed to kill living organisms, and can also be harmful to humans. In addition to cancer, pesticides are implicated in birth defects, nerve damage and genetic mutation

Why Organic Cotton?

What we achieved by developing Organic Cotton is to produce a mattress ticking which is eco-friendly and completely natural fabric. Organic Cotton does not contain any harmful chemicals which can be dangerous for human health and the nature. We are in constant contact with chemical substances in daily life. For this reason it is very important that our mattresses, where we spend a third of our lives, are natural environments. Our guard is at its lowest during sleep. Sleeping on a natural fibers bedding will help ensure that at least a third of our lives are spent without being in contact with hazardous substances...
